Award-winning poet to read at monthly Wingbeats workshop

AT BOOKWORKS: Poet Barbara Rockman will read from “To Cleave: Poems” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11. Full of sensory detail and written with astute observatio­n, the book searches for and lays bare the mythic moments one finds even in the most ordinary life.

Rockman is the author of “Sting and Nest: Poems,” winner of the New Mexico-Arizona Book

Award. She teaches writing at Santa Fe Community College and at Esperanza Shelter for Battered Families. This month’s Wingbeats Poetry

Workshop is at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13. The topic is “An Exercise in Derangemen­t,” Carmen Gimenez Smith’s exercise from Wingbeats II, led by David

Meischen.

The Bookworks Book Club will discuss Louise Erdrich’s “Plague of Doves” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14.
