CATCHES OF THE WEEK Steve Bowen of Albuquerqu­e caught a 6-pound, 24-inch catfish during a fishing derby at Sandia Lakes earlier this month. Kaden Martinez, 14, of Maxwell, caught a 21-inch walleye using a white and chartreuse Booyah spinner bait Saturday at Stubblefie­ld Lake. Zachary Valdez of Rio Rancho, caught and released a 28-inch brown trout using a black and yellow Panther Martin spinner on Friday on the Pecos River. Diane Ciampolill­o of Albuquerqu­e, caught a 20-inch largemouth bass at Santa Rosa Lake using a Texas rig with an orange bead and nightcrawl­ers Aug. 6. NOTES from GAME & FISH: At ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE, fishing for white bass was good using live minnows, white tubes and sassy shad. Fishing for catfish was good using cut carp, worms, minnows, homemade dough bait, hotdogs and chicken liver. Stream flow on the SAN JUAN RIVER Monday morning was 1,070 cfs. Fishing for trout in the quality waters was good using red and crème midge larva fly patterns, size 22 black midge clusters, darkcolore­d zebra midges and crystal flash sizes 24 and 26. Farther downstream, trout fishing is good using baetis patterns such as root beers and RS2s. Anglers reported that some trout are rising and that dry fly fishing is fair. Fishing for catfish in TINGLEY BEACH’S bait ponds was fair using shrimp, homemade dough bait, chicken liver and raw chicken. At COCHITI LAKE, fishing for catfish was good using cut bait. Monday morning flows on the CHAMA RIVER below El Vado and Abiquiu were 261 cfs and 246 cfs, respective­ly. Fishing for trout below El Vado Lake was good using Panther Martin spinners, nightcrawl­ers, nymph flies, egg pattern flies and PowerBait worms. Fishing at UTE LAKE for bass was good using soft plastic stick baits such as Berkley General and Ned Rigs. Streamflow on the PECOS RIVER below Sumner Lake Monday morning was 114 cfs. Fishing for catfish was good using chicken liver.
