Six finalists named for CNM president; forums planned
The Central New Mexico Community College Governing Board has picked six finalists for president of the community college.
The candidates are two of the college’s vice presidents and four officials from community colleges in other states. There will be interviews and public forums with them at the end of this month, and board members are expected to announce the next president at their Nov. 12 meeting.
“We’re pleased and grateful that we have six very talented leaders who are very well-suited to guide CNM into the future and advance the College’s vision of
Changing Lives, Building Community,” Governing Board Chairwoman Pauline Garcia said in a prepared statement. “We’re excited to introduce these finalists to the community and we encourage everybody who is interested in the future direction of CNM to participate in this very important process to identify the next president of CNM.”
CNM is officially announcing the six finalists Friday. Each finalist will appear at public forums on each of CNM’s five campuses from Oct. 21 to Oct. 30.
The next president will take the reins from CNM’s longest-serving president. Katharine Winograd, who has led CNM for more than 12 years, announced her retirement in the spring but indicated she would stay on board until the college found her replacement.
The final candidates were recommended by a 24-person search committee that included community members, according to a CNM news release.
The six finalists for CNM’s president are:
Tracy Hartzler, CNM’s vice president ■ for finance and operations.
G.H. Javaheripour, president of Yuba ■
College in Marysville, Calif.
Julie Leidig, provost of Loudoun Campus ■ at Northern Virginia Community College.
Bernadette Montoya, leadership development ■ facilitator for the Chair Academy for Leadership Development at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona.
Elena Sandoval-Lucero, vice president ■ of Boulder County Campus of Front Range Community College in Longmont, Colorado.
Samantha Sengel, CNM’s vice president ■ for advancement and enrollment strategy
