Robertson coach suspended

- JOURNAL STAFF AND WIRES

With less than two weeks to go in the regular season, the volleyball coach of Robertson, Class 3A’s top-ranked team, has been suspended indefinitely.

Stacy Fulgenzi, who is in her fourth season with the Cardinals, was relieved of her school keys and badge Monday afternoon, according to her sister, Volcano Vista volleyball coach Dawn C’deBaca.

It is not clear why. Robertson athletic director Juan Carlos Fulgenzi, the coach’s brother-inlaw, said he could not comment on the situation and referred all inquiries to superintendent I. Larryssa Archuleta. Archuleta did not return phone calls Tuesday. Las Vegas City Schools Board president Dennis Romero said “it is a personnel matter, so we cannot discuss it.”

He added, “We don’t know how long it’s going to take,” referring to the length of her suspension.

Coach Fulgenzi, an alum of Robertson, has guided the team to a 13-3 record and 6-0 in District 2 this season heading into a late match Tuesday at Santa Fe Indian School. Overall she is 67-24 and twice led the Cardinals to the state championship match.

The team posted a photo Tuesday with all the Cardinals players standing in front of a Robertson bus, wearing black T-shirts that read on the front, “Bring Back Coach Stacy,” and on the back “#Together.”

One of her former players, 2019 Robertson grad Alianza Darley, is playing volleyball at UTEP and was the Journal North female athlete of the year in the spring.
