Instruction meets indulgence
Two skilled chefs celebrate flavors of NM and Texas at ‘artistic’ Sunday Supper
New Mexico flavors meet Texas tastes during a collaboration dinner at Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm.
The Sunday Supper on Nov. 10 will feature courses created by Los Poblanos Executive Chef Jonathan Perno and Hotel Emma’s culinary director Chef John Brand. Hotel Emma is a luxury boutique hotel located in San Antonio, Texas, and incorporates Los Poblanos’ signature lavender products in all of its guest rooms.
The Sunday Supper menu will not be created far in advance. Instead, Chefs Perno and Brand will create an “organic” and “artistic” menu in the days leading up to the dinner, according to the Los Poblanos event page. Each course will be paired with wines from the Los Poblanos cellar selected by sommelier Dylan Storment.
“Using ingredients from both regions and combining years of unique experiences, they are excited to pool their resources to create a culinary masterpiece that promises to be unforgettable,” according to the event page.
On Nov. 9, the chefs will hold a cooking demonstration that will give guests an opportunity to meet the chefs and learn more about their culinary process, as well as sample some of their creations.
The dinner is a two-part dining series. Chef Perno traveled to Texas this month to partner with Chef Brand at a dining event at his restaurant, Supper at Hotel Emma, which is located in the historic Pearl Brewery building.
“We feel very connected to Hotel Emma through our shared commitment to historic preservation, sustainability and great food,” Los Poblanos Executive Director Matthew Rembe is quoted saying on the event page.
The Sunday Supper is part of a Los Poblanos dining series created by Chef Perno and Dylan Storment.
They curated an entire year of Rio Grande Valley Cuisine dinner programming to “highlight the spirit and artistry of the season.” The series pays homage to local ranchers, farmers, vintners, brewers and distillers who understand that flavors and ingredients are as important as the environment and where they originate from, according to the event page.
