FRIDAY Robertson routs St. Michael’s

For a half it was anybody’s ballgame.

But something happened at halftime and it wasn’t good for St. Michael’s.

“It was a good little battle the whole first half,” Horsemen coach Joey Fernandez said. “They had a couple plays they scored on. And they stopped us.”

Trailing 12-0 at halftime, St. Michael’s came out for the third quarter listless and Robertson took advantage, rolling through the Horsemen to win going away 44-0.

“It was pretty tough,” Fernandez said. “Our kids quit. They quit playing. They quit doing what they do best and Robertson had their way in the second half.”

The Horsemen (4-4, 2-1 in District 2-3A) now sit in second place in the district and have to rely on West Las Vegas to knock off the Cardinals (8-1, 2-1) to earn a share of the district championship.

This type of result, however, was not what St. Mike’s was expecting.

“We thought we had a good game plan coming,” Fernandez said. “I know they’re not 44 points better than us. It was a lack of effort, something we’ve had a few games this year.”

With just one game remaining in the regular season, the coach said he needs to shake some things up.

“We just have to try and change what we’re doing,” he said. “How we practice and how we go out. We need to get more enthusiasm, more effort and more intensity. A lot of times, we’re just going through the motions.” FRIDAY BOYS SOCCER SCORES:
