Beyond trick-or-treating

All sorts of creepy, creative activities are going on

The city of Albuquerqu­e and Bernalillo County are putting their spookiest feet forward and inviting zombies, vampires, and ghouls alike to come out of hiding Thursday for multiple Halloween-themed events.

OLD TOWN GHOST TOWN: Albuquerqu­e’s Cultural Services Department will open Old Town to trick or treaters from 4 to 6 p.m. There will be a face painting station, photo booth with free prints, a drum circle, and music and dancing at the Gazebo in the plaza. Participat­ing shops will be open to trick or treaters. Pets on leashes are welcome to tag along. Glass containers and alcohol are prohibited.

CREEPY CRAWLERS: The Palo Duro Senior Center near Comanche and San Mateo will host a pet parade and costume contest from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The city’s Lucky Paws adoption van will be on site with $10 adoptions that include spay or neuter procedures, microchipp­ing and vaccinatio­ns.

The city’s BUGarium at the ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden will have three special interactiv­e exhibits from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids and adults can learn about different kinds of worms and enjoy maggotroni and cheese, gawk at tarantulas at the Spider Station, and construct their own

Frankenste­in bug to take home at the Build-a-Bug Table.

Anyone sporting a costume will get a special treat.

PUMPKIN FUN: Watch sea turtles snack on pumpkin bits and fish swim through jack-o-lanterns at the ABQ BioPark. Aquarium divers will carve pumpkins underwater from 1 to 3 p.m. The show is included with regular admission.

The Cesar Chavez Community Center near Louisiana and Southern will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. and host a haunted house, carnival games, a costume contest and more.

Uber’s Take a Ride on Us program is offering $10 credit to the first 1,000 people to use the code ABQTREAT19 between noon Friday, Oct. 25, and 3 a.m. Friday Nov. 1.

HAUNTED FILM: The KiMo Theatre in Downtown Albuquerqu­e, which is rumored to be haunted by the ghost of a boy who died during a film screening in 1951, will offer tours and a screening of “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenste­in” from 5 to 9:30 p.m. The haunted tour is $5 and the film is $6 for children and $8 for adults.

TRICK OR TREAT: Albuquerqu­e’s Parks and Recreation Department is hosting Trunk or Treat at Balloon Fiesta Park from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monsters of all ages can walk or ride bikes from car trunk to car trunk and tent to tent collecting candy.

Fire stations in Bernalillo County will be open and passing out candy to trick or treaters from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday night.
