Mercedes-Benz benefits Presbyterian Ear Institute
Each year, Mercedes-Benz of Albuquerque hosts the MercedesBenz Dealer Championship Golf Tournament, with all proceeds benefiting a local charitable organization. Presbyterian Ear Institute was the recipient of the proceeds from the 2019 tournament once again, held at Sandia Golf Club on Sept. 6. Robert Bostwick, MercedesBenz of Albuquerque general manager, presented a check to PEI in the amount
of $38,682.20 — an increase of 38% over funds raised last year.
“This year, we expanded the golf program to include a wine tasting and a plus-one dinner so participants could bring guests to join them after the tournament,” Bostwick said. “We raised a record amount for PEI this year, because we truly value the work they do for deaf and hard-of-hearing children in New Mexico.”
Presbyterian Ear Institute began as a research and pediatric cochlear implant program under the direction of Dr. Karl L. Horn in 1987. PEI was selected as one of the first FDA-approved clinical trial sites for pediatric cochlear implantation. In 1989, Dr. Horn and PEI started a speech therapy program and an oral school to teach deaf children with cochlear implants and hearing aids to listen and speak. Today, PEI is the premier center for the early identification, early intervention and education of children with hearing loss.
“PEI is incredibly grateful to MercedesBenz of Albuquerque and the Bostwick family for all they have done to support PEI! This year’s golf tournament was a huge success thanks to their generous support and their passion to not only grow the tournament, but to help children in our community,” said Seema LaGree, PEI executive director.
Mercedes-Benz of Albuquerque selected PEI as the beneficiary of the Dealer Championship Golf Tournament in accord with their mission of supporting worthy nonprofit organizations in the community. The golf tournament is just one of several events that Mercedes-Benz of Albuquerque hosts or contributes to that benefits PEI throughout the year.
