Proposed law an abuse of our government’s power

-

RED FLAG laws are nothing more than progressive political posturing. Letters have been written condemning sheriffs for violating their oath of office by not supporting the U.S. and N.M. Constitutions. Yet is it not hypocritical to condemn sheriffs for violating their oath of office while in the same breath supporting sanctuary cities and states that refuse to obey federal immigration laws.

Red flag law supporters contend that they will reduce murders and suicides. Taking a life, including your own, is a matter of personal decision. A gun might be a convenient device by which to accomplish that, but determination will win out even if guns are taken away.

Red flag law supporters contend they will save lives. If red flag laws were truly about saving lives, then why are lawmakers not more concerned with drunken driving and opioid deaths, which remove people from this earth in far greater numbers than shooting deaths?

You can be sure of one thing: A red flag law is not about saving lives. It is about government abuse of power. Give government an inch and it will take a mile. How many unknown lives will be saved in comparison to having your individual rights taken away?

The primary responsibility of government is to protect our constitutional rights. Lawmakers abuse their power when they violate the constitution as written. Trust me, there is a greater agenda behind these types of laws. The right to own a gun is not only for personal protection but is also to keep government in check. That is what abusive lawmakers fear.
