ABQ GOP building vandalized
Surveillance video shows man spray painting words on side of building
Albuquerque police are investigating a case of vandalism at the Republican Party headquarters in Northeast Albuquerque that occurred over the weekend.
Someone painted the words “Still Traitors” in yellow and gold spray paint outside the office at 5150A San Francisco Road.
It is believed to have occurred Saturday morning around 2:37 a.m. when surveillance video picked up a vehicle parking in the lot outside the building.
The video showed a man walking out of the vehicle with a can of spray paint in his hands, and appeared to show him painting words on the front of the building.
“This kind of criminal action will not be tolerated,” New Mexico Republican Party Chairman Steve Pearce said in a statement. “The defacing of property at our headquarters seems to be an individual attack, not a group or an organization. Someone is trying to send a message of hate, and now we
have it on video. We’ve filed a police report, and we’ll get to the bottom of this.”
Republican Party spokesman Mike Curtis said authorities have the surveillance video and photos.
He said it isn’t the first time Republican Party Headquarters has been targeted. He said there have been multiple cases of vandalism there.
Someone spray-painted “Traitors” with the same colored paint in the same location on the building in March.
People with information about the incident are urged to call 505-242-2677 or the state Republican Party at 505-298-3662.
