Sandia Golf Club’s restart: a soft opening for select members

Sandia Golf Club, which has been closed for nearly two months due to the coronavirus pandemic, will conduct a soft opening by allowing only Champions Club members beginning Wednesday.

The Champions Club is similar to a rewards program and includes approximately 1,700 members.

The majority of golf courses in New

Mexico were allowed to reopen on May 1. They had been shut down when Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham issued a stay at home order that went into effect March 24.

Sandia Golf Club will be one of the few tribal land golf courses to reopen in New Mexico. Santa Ana and Twin Warriors golf courses, as well as Isleta Eagle remain closed, while Black Mesa Golf Club is open Wednesday through Sunday.

“We have taken measures to ensure the health and safety of our guests and team members without compromising the enjoyment of the game on our championship golf course,” Stuart Paisano, Governor of the Pueblo of Sandia, said in a press release. “Continued awareness and training will be pursued and become a normal function of the Sandia Experience as we become more knowledgeable.”

Sandia Golf Club is essentially returning to the operation procedures staff had been using just prior to shutting down.

The Champions Club members are advised to call to reserve a tee time, (505) 798-3990. Golfers will tee off in 15-minute intervals, similar to other public golf courses in New Mexico.

In addition, Sandia will allow one person per cart (unless living in the same household).

The Golf Club Grille located in the clubhouse will be open exclusively for takeout orders.
