ABQ man pleads guilty to threatening governor’s life

The Albuquerque man who threatened to kill Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on her Facebook page pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday to two counts of making threatening communications in interstate commerce.

Daniel Logan Mock, 34, faces a maximum prison sentence of five years for each offense.

Mock admitted in his plea agreement that he made several posts between March 2 and March 13 on Lujan Grisham’s official Facebook page that threatened Lujan Grisham and police officers.

In one posting, Mock admitted writing, “Time to pick up your rifles and kill this governor so we can reestablish the constitution as law of New Mexico.”

In another, he wrote, “I am going to begin red flagging myself in order to combat and kill all police and government officials who are in violation of the constitution.”

Although not spelled out in court records, the “red flagging” is apparently a reference to Lujan Grisham signing into law a bill that allowed local law enforcement officers to obtain a court order to remove firearms from a person’s home under certain conditions.

Mock told Lujan Grisham to focus her energy on police violating traffic and parking laws. “This is why we are going to execute you.”

In court pleadings, Mock said he wrote the posts knowing they would be viewed as threats by Lujan Grisham.

After the threats were spotted by Lujan Grisham’s State Police security detail, the FBI began investigating, spending days tracking Mock down.

His girlfriend told agents that he was just “blowing off steam,” according to court records.

He was arrested at a medical cannabis dispensary in Downtown Albuquerque.

Mock is currently in custody and is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 27.
