SF ANIMAL SHELTER & HUMANE SOCIETY

Life during the days of COVID-19 might be a little more social with a new pet in your life. Meet Aslan, he is an adorable year-old mixed-breed pup with the most gorgeous eyes. He came to the shelter via another New Mexico shelter to find a home in Santa Fe. Aslan is a smart pup and will sit for you. He does great on leash walks, too.

This lovely feline is named

Zoey. She is a beautiful domestic shorthaired kitty who is about 10 months old and also came to the shelter from a partner shelter within New Mexico. Zoey is a fun kitty who would love some jingle toys, cat nip toys and even a scratching pad.

These and other animals are available for adoption from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter at 100 Caja del Rio Road. The shelter’s adoption hours during the pandemic are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. daily and are by appointment only. To enquire about any of these pets and others for adoption, call the shelter at 983-4309 to schedule an appointment. See updated COVID-19 shelter policies and view available animals online at SFHumaneSociety. org. You can also follow the shelter on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

While the community is still adjusting to life in the time of COVID-19, the shelter has continued its essential work of caring for Santa Fe’s abandoned, injured and homeless animals during the pandemic, but more funds are necessary to maintain day-to-day operations. Back Road Pizza is teaming up with Odells Brewery to host an online edition of Pints for Pups to raise needed funds for the shelter. On Saturday, May 23, Back Road Pizza will be offering custom pint glasses, pizza, raffle prizes and more swag. Shop online at backroadpizza.com or call 955-9055. Place a food or merchandise order for no-contact curbside service and pickup at Backroad Pizza, 1807 2nd St.

One positive side of the stay-athome order is that more people are adopting or fostering pets. With training facilities closed, how do you get your pup the training it might need? The shelter will begin training classes virtually, with its first online class aimed at puppies starting May 31. The classes will focus on basic good manners, including sitting, waiting, paying attention, walking on a leash and more. The puppy classes will be held online via Zoom and the cost is $200 for six, one-hour courses. There is a 50% off special if you adopted from any animal shelter. ESPAÑOLA HUMANE

Presenting a bonded pair of pooches, Prince Flynn Ryder and his Princess Rapunzel, for your fairy tail adoption consideration! Once upon a time, instead of having the best day ever, Rapunzel and Flynn were found wandering a busy highway, where a Good Samaritan picked them up and brought them to us. Rapunzel couldn’t let down her hair because it was so terribly tangled; our vet team had to free her of the matted mess and now her fur is much more magical!

These two affectionate 8-yearold dogs still have a lot of pep and deserve their happily-ever-after together. Flynn is a lowridin’ 48 pounds and Rapunzel is 39 pounds; their adoption fees are waived thanks to a generous donation.

Although the shelter is closed to the public, adoptions by appointment only are available. Fill out an application for this royal pair online or call 505-753-8662 and our staff will help you schedule a visit. To see more adoptable pets, go to www.espanolahumane.org or www. petango.com.
