McKinley County hardest-hit, with 77 new positive tests

Six more deaths and 190 new coronavirus cases reported in New Mexico

New Mexico health officials reported 190 new cases of COVID-19 and six more deaths related to the virus in a Saturday afternoon update, bringing the statewide total to 5,847 cases and 259 deaths.

Four of the deaths were in McKinley County, and there were one each in Sandoval and San Juan counties, according to a news release issued through the Governor’s Office. The dead were:

■ A woman in her 60s and three men, in

their 60s, 70s and 80s, in McKinley County. Two of the men were residents of the Red Rocks Care Center in Gallup.

■ A woman in her 80s from Sandoval County but, at the time, she was a resident of the Red Rocks Care Center in Gallup.

■ A woman in her 50s from San Juan County.

The state Department of Health said there were 77 new cases in McKinley County;

42 in San Juan County; 16 in Doña Ana County; 14 in Bernalillo County; 12 in Roosevelt County; eight in Santa Fe County; five in Sandoval County; four in Curry County; and one each in Cibola, Lincoln, Otero, Rio Arriba, San Miguel and Valencia counties.

There also were two new reported cases of detainees contracting COVID-19 at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Otero County Processing Center and four among individuals being held at Otero County Prison Facility.

The state said there are 208 people hospitalized with the virus and 1,739 designated as having recovered by the New Mexico Department of Health.
