SF ANIMAL SHELTER & HUMANE SOCIETY

As the COVID-19 crisis continues, staying at home is still the best policy. Why not stay home with a new companion? Meet Gio,a handsome pooch with devilishly good looks. He is just over a year old and weighs around 45 pounds. Gio is an energetic dog who loves to run, play and, at the end of the day, get his white fur brushed. Did we mention he loves ropes and playing tug-of-war?

Cats are great at social distancing, but many secretly love affection. If you are looking for a feline friend, meet Sneezy. She is a very pretty 8-pound, year-old brown tabby who came to the shelter via another shelter to find a home in Santa Fe. She is an affectionate kitty who is ready to find her forever home.

These and other animals are available for adoption from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter at 100 Caja del Rio Road. The shelter’s adoption hours during the pandemic are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. daily by appointment only. To enquire about any of these pets and others for adoption, call the shelter at 983-4309 to schedule an appointment. View available animals and see updated COVID-19 shelter policies at SFHumaneSociety.org. You can also follow the shelter on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

One positive side of the stay-athome order is that more people are adopting or fostering pets. But, with training facilities closed, how do you get your pup the training it might need? The Santa Fe Animal Shelter is beginning virtual training classes, with the first online class aimed at puppies starting May 31. ESPAÑOLA HUMANE

Staying at home is the new normal these days. So why not stay at home with a trio of piggies or a fun-loving pooch? Hey, why not bring them all home? Whatever your desire, Española Humane might have the perfect companion for you.

Squeeee! Piglets! The shelter has three darling baby guinea pigs ready for adoption. Bandit, Two-Face and

Joker are available from the shelter via appointment only.

In other pet news, Shelby shouldn’t be here. This 9-yearsyoung, 51-pound, sugarbearshepherd should be treasured as a cherished best friend and devoted companion. Shelby endearingly pulls her ears back and wiggles whenever she sees someone, reaching out with a gentle paw to touch you and look into your eyes. Unfortunately, Shelby is heartworm positive; we have begun her treatment and will continue it at no cost to her future adopter, so she has many good years left to get her second chance at a new beginning — it’s never too late. Let’s get this girl home.

Although the shelter is closed to the public, it is offering adoptions by appointment. Please submit an application by visiting our website, where our staff will contact you to schedule. To see more adoptable pets, log on to www. espanolahumane.org or www. petango.com. You can complete an application online or call 505-753-8662.
