Challenges.

Jamara Garrett is fueled by each one placed in front of her — whether it’s in modeling, fitness or on movie sets.

After taking first in her class and overall in her first fitness competition, Musclemania out of New Mexico, the Albuquerque native craved a new challenge.

Enter NBC’s “The Titan Games” — and a dream goal for Garrett.

At 7 p.m. Monday, May 25, she will be part of the second season of the series.

“It was a pretty crazy experience and super exhilarating,” Garrett says. “Not only was it a big opportunity in the first place, I wanted to put myself in a challenge.”

“The Titan Games” is hosted by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

The series is inspired by Johnson’s desire to motivate global audiences to achieve their greatness and the athletic competition gives men and women across the country the opportunity to step inside the Titan arena and push beyond their limits.

This season, the competition breaks down into three regional brackets: West, Central and East.

Garrett is competing in the West bracket.

Within each region, one male and one female professional athlete will serve as Titans. Each episode during regional competition will see two contenders of each gender battle in a best-of-three competition on epic new and fan-favorite obstacles.

Each competitor is fighting for the chance to compete on Mount Olympus, Johnson’s all-encompassing final obstacle that tests strength, speed, stamina and heart.

In order to become a Titan, the competitors will need to defeat one of Johnson’s professional Titans and then maintain that position on top of Mount Olympus.

“This season of ‘The Titan Games’ is going to be even bigger than last season. We created an incredible new Titan arena with new insane challenges, and we’ve gone out and selected some of the fiercest competitors we’ve ever seen,” Johnson says in a statement. “For the first time ever, our everyday Titans will go head to head with elite athletes from the Olympics, NFL, UFC and beyond to compete for Titan glory. All of these men and women are true athletes and competitors who give it their all in the Titan arena.”

Garrett went through the application and audition process.

Once getting into the competition, she had to adjust to a different way of training and thinking.

“I would consider myself a mentally disciplined person,” Garret says. “I feel like I had that part under control. I changed up my training routine. There’s a lot of grip strength and building endurance and stamina was important.”

Garrett made the trek to Los Angeles in February to film for the show.

For a few months, she’s had to keep it all under wraps.

“I wanted to scream it at the top of my lungs,” she says. “Being able to be part of the show is amazing because each person involved has a mission. Being around The Rock was amazing because he’s accomplished so much in his life.”

Once health restrictions get back to some form of normalcy, Garrett is hoping to make it back to the gym.

She’s also ready to get back on set, as she was set to start production on the Netflix film, “The Harder They Fall.”

Garrett is Albuquerque born and raised. She went one year to Cibola High School and graduated from Volcano Vista High School.

It was there she got motivated to play sports, and competed in tennis and track, by her cousin.

After high school, Garrett found the world of fitness.

“I was such a twig and I wanted to be shapely,” Garrett says. “I found the gym and learned that you can build your body that way.”

Finding fitness, Garrett found her purpose and uses her extra time to be a role model.

“For me to be able to show young boys and girls that you can make your dreams come true through hard work, it’s amazing,” she says. “I want to be added to that group of people that have made a difference in the community. I’m proud to represent my community, Albuquerque, to show that there are no boundaries.”
