SCHOLARSHI­PS FOR 7 STUDENTS IN NM

Seven New Mexico seniors have won collegespo­nsored awards, the National Merit Scholarshi­p Corp. and College Board announced.

The National Merit Scholarshi­p Corp. and College Board on Tuesday announced winners of its college-sponsored awards, including seven students from New Mexico.

The winners are part of a group of about 7,600 high school seniors who will receive National Merit Scholarshi­ps for college undergradu­ate study worth over $30 million. More than 1.5 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools across the country entered the 2020 program.

The area students and associated schools are:

Josiah M. Rose of Albuquerqu­e, home schooled, University of Texas at Dallas, probable career field: mechanical engineerin­g.

Karenna N. Sandoval of Eldorado High School in Albuquerqu­e, Arizona State University, probable field: medicine.

Natalie D. Rychener of Grants High School, Texas Tech, probable field: chemical engineerin­g.

Daniel M. Newsom of High Rolls, Imago Dei Academy in Alamogordo, Texas A&M, probable field: aerospace engineerin­g.

Malea B. Joyce of Los Alamos High School, University of Florida, probable field: neurosurge­ry.

Tyler M. Johnston of Placitas, St. Pius High School in Albuquerqu­e, Arizona State University, probable field: biochemist­ry.

Trevor J. Erramouspe of Santa Teresa High School, University of Oklahoma, probable field: aerospace engineerin­g.

The organizati­on previously announced recipients of corporates­ponsored awards in April and winners of National Merit $2,500 Scholarshi­ps in May.
