‘Social Distance’ exhibit features amateur, professional photographers

Photography is one way to document time and place.
As the world continues to change, these moments are important.
Enter IGersABQ, a social media-based group that brings together amateur and professional photographers.
The group’s latest collaboration is timely — with a focus on social distancing.
It has teamed up with Albuquerque Art Walk and Homewise in presenting the installation, “Social Distance,” which is on display at the B. Ruppe Drugs building, 807 Fourth SW.
More than 20 artists are represented in the installation.
Jessica Roybal, IGersABQ founder, says the group picked the topic of social distance because that’s where life is at the moment.
“The social distance show has been up since the first Friday in May,” Roybal says. “The installation went up as quickly as possible. The images are mounted to the face of the building.”
Roybal says there is also an online gallery that can be viewed at socialdistance.com.

Radio has also been a powerful tool to reach people.
Inside this week’s issue, we take a look at KUNM’s Radio Theatre program, which has been in existence for more than 30 years.
The program airs at 6 p.m. Sunday nights and features radio theater from across the country. It gives listeners an opportunity to listen along while creating the visuals in their heads. Inside this week’s issue, we have movies reviews of “The Vast of Night” and “The High Note” on Pages 4 and 6. “The Vast of Night” is set in New Mexico, although filming took place in Oklahoma.
