Liberals and Black America’s plight

White liberals have taken to the streets to illustrate how they’ve long abhorred the suffering of black folks, and some dutifully write their annual check to the NAACP or the United Negro College Fund, sufficient evidence, they think, that they are truly “color-blind.” But the truth is much less benign.

For starters, liberal politicians have always taken the black vote for granted. They’ve convinced a lot of black Americans that the slow progress black people have made financially, educationally and socially is the result of conservatives blocking their path to success.

But liberals have largely dominated the national political scene since the days of the New Deal, and what progress have black people seen in the over one hundred years since? What did Barack Obama do for blacks in his eight years in office? Not much, truth be told.

Liberals patronizingly insist that black people cannot succeed by themselves, that they can’t possibly break out of their situation without the help of “caring” liberal white folks. They prop up the likes of Jesse Jackson and Al

Sharpton to make sure those ersatz preachers trumpet the contributions of the elites to their brethren.

In my opinion, black people will thrive when they take matters into their own hands, quit relying on financial and other handouts from limousine liberals, and quit being taken for granted. Their children are already gaining status as the doctors, scientists and financial leaders of the future. Be proud of their accomplishments and never look back. JOHN GILLIS Santa Fe
