SF ANIMAL SHELTER & HUMANE SOCIETY

We are still living amid COVID-19 and, while the community is opening up, staying home is still a good thing. Why not settle in with a new furry family member?

Luna is a 13-year-old Shih Tzu/ poodle mix who weighs about 15 pounds. She came to us because her previous guardian could not care for her any longer. Luna is a happygo-lucky pup who loves to play and cuddle. She truly is a gem and is hoping to get a second chance in life.

Boca is a super adorable 3-month-old shorthaired kitty. She weighs about 2 pounds right now and will grow to be 10-12 pounds as an adult. She is a super fun and playful kitten who hopes to find a forever home very soon.

These and other animals are available for adoption from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter at 100 Caja del Rio Road. The shelter’s adoption hours during the pandemic are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. daily and are by appointment only. To enquire about any of these pets and others for adoption, or to schedule an appointment, call the shelter at 983-4309. View available animals and see updated COVID-19 shelter policies at SFHumaneSociety.org. You can also follow the shelter on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The Santa Fe Animal Shelter continues with more virtual training classes, with new online class aimed at puppies. Whether you’re training a new puppy or teaching your old dog new tricks, experts agree that sooner is better. The shelter spokesperson says adopters who have recently adopted a puppy can attend one of two virtual puppy classes that will be held online via Zoom. The cost is $200 for six, onehour courses and there is a 50% off special if you adopted from any animal shelter. The classes will focus on basic good manners, including sitting, waiting, paying attention, walking on a leash and more. For more information about online puppy classes, visit bit.ly/sfastraining.

ESPAÑOLA HUMANE

At Española Humane, social distancing and staying at home is still the norm, but that doesn’t mean you have to do it alone. Why not adopt a homeless cat or dog to keep you company?

Hailey is basically a smile on four legs. This 4½-year-old dog is essentially perfect: she’s housetrained, leash trained, loves humans of all sizes, and is wonderful with all the furbabies, too! Her adopter will feel like the luckiest person on Earth to have her as their companion. Apply to adopt this sweet sunbeam of love and light, and our team will call to schedule a meet and greet — you will fall head over heels!

Furrgie was found outside our shelter shackin’ up with our feral cat colony … only she’s not feral! We discovered that Furrgie is sweet as peach pie after we trapped her to spay, vaccinate and microchip her. She’s so not feral that she even reaches a paw from her kennel to ever so gently touch you as you walk by, asking for attention.

Although the shelter is closed to the public, it is offering adoptions by appointment. See more adoptable pets or submit an application online at www.espanolahumane.org or www.petango.com, or call 505-7538662 and our staff will contact you to schedule an appointment.
