SF ANIMAL SHELTER & HUMANE SOCIETY

We are still living amid COVID-19 and while the community is opening up, staying home is still a good thing. Why not settle in with a new pet? The Santa Fe Animal Shelter has plenty of pets wanting forever homes. First, meet the lovely Heidi.

She is a two-year-old mixed-breed pup who weighs 55 pounds. Heidi came to us from another shelter in New Mexico to find a home in Santa Fe. Many of you must be curious about her ears. Yes, they are her real ears! She is super sweet and loves to go on walks. If you’d like to see this beautiful smile in person, call adoptions and make an appointment to meet her.

This fabulous feline, Mister, is just over a year old and currently weighs about 10 pounds. This Russian blue look-alike is a super affectionate and loves to play with kitty toys. Come meet this cutie pie today.

These and other animals are available for adoption from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter at 100 Caja del Rio Road. The shelter’s adoption hours during the pandemic are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. daily and are by appointment only. To enquire about any of these pets and others for adoption, call the shelter at 983-4309 to schedule an appointment. View available animals online and see updated COVID-19 shelter policies at SFHumaneSociety. org. You can also follow the shelter on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Does your child love animals and want to learn more about animal welfare? The Santa Fe Animal Shelter is now accepting applications for their Critter Camp, which will now be held online.

The virtual program for children ages 8-13 years old, provides budding animal welfare advocates with activities, humane lessons and conversations with pet care professionals.

Critter Camp online is an immersive experience for your child that brings together our best shelter talent to educate and stimulate, and hopefully make your child an animal welfare advocate for life!

For more information about Critter Camp, held July 13-17, or to register, visit: sfhumanesociety.org/ our-programs/critter-camp.

ESPAÑOLA HUMANE

The staff at Española Humane wants you to know that while social distancing and staying at home is still pretty much the norm, there are plenty of animals who would love to be sharing their lives in a new home: yours.

First off, meet this sweet cat named Clumsy because, well, she is a bit off-balance. In fact, she has a condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia, which means her cerebellum is a smidge smaller than normal, which causes “Wobbly Cat Syndrome.” Although rare, this isn’t as scary as it sounds. Clumsy has been living a life of love and wobbly wanderings in foster care and she won’t require any special care in the future. She will need to be an indoors-only cat and, as with all cats — to keep all her claws as having claws affords mobility and balance, which is crucial for her. This precious purrball is perfect and her wobble only makes her more endearing.

Big Girl is a big mama with a big story. This brindle beauty arrived with a prolapsed uterus and the shelter’s vet raced her into surgery to save her life. For weeks now, she’s been hospitalized at the shelter while staff continues to provide follow-up surgeries, meds and supportive care.

This 7 year-old, 75-pound mastiff has a big personality and likes to show off her fainting goat trick, where she lumbers up to you happily and suddenly goes belly up, stiff legs in the air, incapacitated by happiness. She appears to be house trained, and this might be the biggest couch potato lap dog you’ll ever know.

Even though the shelter is closed to the public, it is offering adoptions by appointment only. Please submit an application by visiting the shelter’s website or calling 505753-8662 and someone will contact you to schedule an appointment.
