Happy Fourth of July

Stay safe and watch the fireworks from home

- BY THERESA DAVIS JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

The pandemic may have canceled plans for large Fourth of July celebrations this year, but locals can still enjoy fireworks from home.

Albuquerque

The City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County will launch fireworks at these four sites beginning at 9:20 p.m. — weather permitting — on Saturday, July 4:

■ Ladera Golf Course, 3401 Ladera NW

■ North Domingo Baca Park, 7521 Carmel NE

■ Manzano Mesa Park, 501 Elizabeth SE

■ Tom Tenorio Park, 2900 Arenal SW

Each site will be closed to the public, both pedestrians and vehicles, several hours ahead of launch time. Street parking around each site will be restricted.

Gatherings near the sites are strongly discouraged. City and county officials have encouraged residents to watch the fireworks from their own homes.

The fireworks will be synchronized to music broadcast on 770 KKOB-AM and 96.3 KKOB-FM radio.

Fireworks are prohibited in and around the bosque and open space areas.

Rio Rancho

The City of Rio Rancho will host a free drive-in fireworks show Saturday. The City Center area opens for parking at 7 p.m. and fireworks will begin at 9 p.m.

Parking in the City Center parking lot will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Vehicles must be parked with two empty spaces between each car. Concessions will not be available.

Albuquerque has a 20% chance of rain on Saturday. The high temperature forecast is 94 degrees. By about 9 p.m., the temperature should drop to around 82.
