BernCo reports over 100 new COVID-19 cases

Total infections across entire state pass 15,000

State health officials reported more than 100 new cases of COVID-19 in Bernalillo County on Sunday as the state reached over 15,000 cases.

Two more deaths were also reported Sunday, bringing the statewide death toll to 545.

The Department of Health announced 262 new COVID-19 cases

Sunday, with 111 of those cases coming from Bernalillo County. The state’s most populous county now has 3,076 cases and is second only to McKinely County, which has 3,634 cases.

New Mexico now has a total of 15,028 COVID-19 cases.

The deaths reported Sunday included a man in his 70s in Bernalillo County who had underlying conditions and a man in his 40s from San Juan County.

The hardest-hit counties continued to report the highest totals across the state Sunday. Doña Ana County reported 32 additional cases, San Juan County reported 24 and McKinley County reported 20.

Lea County, which has started to see an uptick in cases, reported 11 additional cases for a total of 280.

Sandoval County recorded 17 new cases Sunday for a total of 838.

Another state inmate at the Central New Mexico Correction­al Facility in Valencia County tested positive, becoming the seventh inmate in the facility to get infected.

There are 170 people hospitaliz­ed with the disease across the state, and 6,322 people have recovered, according to the Department of Health.

DeBaca County is the only county in the New Mexico that has not reported any COVID-19 cases. Five counties still have COVID-19 case totals in the single digits.
