SF ANIMAL SHELTER & HUMANE SOCIETY

-

Staying home is still the norm for most people in Santa Fe these days as life in a time of COVID-19 continues. Why not stay home with a new pet? The Santa Fe Animal Shelter has plenty of pets waiting for forever homes. Meet Cholula.

She is a year-old, 45-pound Alaskan Husky mix. She is a playful young pooch who is getting along well with other dogs in the shelter. She likes meeting new humans and her favorite time of day is play group. Cholula also enjoys working for treats and does well on a leash. If you’d like to meet this lovable dog, please give adoptions a call to make an appointment.

Gizmo is an adorable gray medium-haired kitten. He is one of a dozen or so the Santa Fe Animal Shelter currently has ready for adoption. Gizmo is super sweet, loves to play and is currently housed with two other kitties. If you are ready to adopt, please call the shelter to make an appointment.

These and other animals are available for adoption from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter at 100 Caja del Rio Road. The shelter’s adoption hours during the pandemic are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. daily and are by appointment only. To enquire about any of these pets and others for adoption, call the shelter at 983-4309 to schedule an appointment. View available animals online and see updated COVID-19 shelter policies at SFHumaneSociety.org. You can also follow the shelter on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

On Sunday, July 26, the Santa Fe Animal Shelter will host an essential blood drive for humans. Many blood drives have been canceled due to the pandemic, so individual donations matter now more than ever, making this blood drive essential to maintaining a stable blood supply during the summer months. Vitalant will also perform complementary SARSCoV-2 antibody testing on all blood donations. This test determines whether a donor has been previously infected with COVID-19. It is not a test to determine if a donor is currently infected.

The drive runs from 11:30 a.m.4 p.m. at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society, 100 Caja del Rio Road. While walkins are accepted, appointments are preferred and time slots are currently limited. There will be strict social distancing and disinfecting protocols, and face coverings are required. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health. Donors will receive a shelter gift bag. ESPAÑOLA HUMANE

Española Humane is rapidly filling up with cats, dogs, puppies and kittens looking for homes. They are all so sweet and special, and could sure use a safe place to live. In terms of years, Gizmo is on the far end of the sunset color spectrum. This precious Yorkie doesn’t have a tooth left in his mouth, but that doesn’t stop him from tasting all that is sweet in life! Gizmo says it’s never too late for a new beginning to his story.

Kitten season is in full swing and we have an adoption special for kittens: $25 for one and two kittens for $40. Adoption fees include spay/ neuter, vaccinations and microchip. Meet Apollo, who is fresh from foster with his sister, Artemis. Apollo really lives up to his name. This is one mythologically handsome kitten and he has a sunny personality to match.

Although the shelter is closed to the public, it is offering adoptions by appointment only. Please submit an application for these pets by visiting the shelter’s website; shelter staff will contact you to schedule. To see more adoptable pets, log on to www.espanolahumane.org or www. petango.com. Fill out an application online or call 505-753-8662.
