Will Rodgers finish career as a Packer? No one knows
Broncos OT James opts out of 2020 season due to concerns
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers doesn’t want to speculate just how much longer he might remain in Green Bay now that the team has drafted his potential successor.
The two-time MVP says he’s just trying to concentrate on the things that remain in his control while remembering to cherish each opportunity.
“I savor every moment, every season,” Rodgers said Monday in a Zoom session with reporters. “I don’t take any of it for granted. I don’t know what the future holds. I know I can control this year and my play and my approach and my attitude. And I’m enjoying being back with the guys. It’s fun to see them.”
The Packers traded up four spots in the first round in April to draft Utah State quarterback Jordan Love with the No. 26 overall pick.
Rodgers has acknowledged Green Bay’s decision caught him by surprise and likely complicated his chances of finishing his career as a Packer. The 36-year-old Rodgers noted in May that he’s interested in playing into his 40s.
JAMES OPTS OUT: Denver right tackle Ja’Wuan James informed the Broncos on Monday that he’s opting out of the 2020 season over coronavirus concerns. Elijah Wilkinson, who had offseason foot surgery, was activated off the PUP list and will fill in for James for the second straight season.
BECKHAM: Cleveland star wide receiver Odell Beckham was quoted Monday in a Wall Street Journal story as saying he wondered why the league was putting players’ health at risk.
“Obviously with everything that’s going on, it doesn’t make sense why we’re trying to do this,” Beckham told the publication.
RAIDERS: Las Vegas will have to wait another year to show off its fancy new home to its fans.
The team sent a letter to season ticket holders on Monday saying that after discussion with health care officials and local leaders, the decision was made not to allow fans at games this season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
SEAHAWKS: Coach Pete Carroll finally had the chance to see new safety Jamal Adams on the field in a Seattle uniform Monday.
For Adams, it was his first formal on-field activity with the Seahawks after his trade from the New York Jets.
“He can do everything that we want a guy to do,” Carroll said. “He’s most dynamic as an aggressive player, where he has chances to make plays and be around the line of scrimmage and around coverage in pressure situations.”
VIKINGS: Minnesota signed general manager Rick Spielman to a multi-year contract extension on Monday, and the the Vikings acquired defensive tackle P.J. Hall from Las Vegas for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2021.
TITANS: Tennessee signed its top draft pick Isaiah Wilson and moved the rookie from the Reserve/COVID-19 list to the active roster.
