APS FOOD AND NUTRITION SERVICES 2020-2021 PUBLIC RELEASE FOR COMMUNITY ELIGIBILITY PROVISION

-

07/01/2020 – ALBUQUERQUE – APS Food and Nutrition Services is slated to implement the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for Free Meal Reimbursement in School Year 2020-2021. Through CEP, a school district, a group of schools or a single school may offer meals at no charge to all students. This eliminates the procedure of distributing and processing meal applications.

The Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010 includes the implementation of CEP to insure that every student in lowincome neighborhoods and/or districts can participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP). To qualify, a district or school must have 40 percent or more of its students eligible for free meals based on direct certification.

By participating in CEP and eliminating the need for meal applications, APS Food and Nutrition Services will reduce administrative and printing costs. Families also benefit from the elimination of completing and submitting meal applications.

All students enrolled at this school may participate in the breakfast/lunch program at no charge to them.

Studies have shown that children who are not hungry perform better in school. By providing breakfast/lunch to all children at no charge, we are hoping to create a better learning environment for our students.

The school breakfast and lunch that we serve follows U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines for healthy school meals. The Universal Meals Program cannot succeed without your support; please encourage your children to participate in school meal programs.
