155 new COVID-19 cases continues downward trend; six deaths reported

New Mexico reported 155 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, continuing a downward trend in daily cases.

Health officials also said there were six new deaths, pushing the statewide death toll to 681.

The number of overall cases reported Saturday was the lowest daily total since July 1, not counting one day earlier this week when a technical disruption resulted in a smaller case-load report.

In late July, the state was averaging more 300 new cases per day.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said Thursday that the state was making progress in managing the spread of the disease, but that it was still too early to make significant changes to business restrictions.

Among the new cases reported by the state Saturday, 34 were in Bernalillo County; 21 in Doña Ana County; and 11 in Santa Fe County. Southeastern New Mexico had a share of the new cases with 16 new cases in Chaves County and 11 in Lea County.

The deaths were all adults, ranging from their 60s to 80s, with underlying conditions. Five of the six were hospitalized. They were:

A Bernalillo County woman in her 70s who was a resident of The Rio at Las Estancias in Albuquerque;

A Bernalillo County man in his 70s who was a resident of Encompass Health Rehabilitation in Albuquerque;

A Cibola County woman in her 60s; Two McKinley County men, one in his 60s and the other in his 80s; and

A woman in her 60s from Rio Arriba County.

Health officials said Saturday that 127 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 throughout the state.

There have been 9,262 people reported to have recovered from the disease.
