SF ANIMAL SHELTER & HUMANE SOCIETY

Fill your stay-at-home days up with the love of a new furry family member. This week, the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane society is showcasing two wonderful pets. Meet Frodo. He is a handsome pooch who currently weighs about 22 pounds and is about 6 months old. Frodo is a super fun pup who loves to explore his surroundings. He is great on leash walks and ideally would benefit from training classes with his new family.

Looking for a cat? Then have a visit with Carla; she is almost 2 years old and weighs around 8 pounds. Carla came to us as a transfer from another shelter in New Mexico. This lady can be a bit shy, but once she warms up, she loves getting petted and groomed. She purrs when you pet her whole body. She is a sucker for chin and under-collar scratches as well.

These and other animals are available for adoption from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter at 100 Caja del Rio Road. The shelter’s adoption hours during the pandemic are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. daily and are by appointment only. To enquire about any of these pets and others for adoption, call the shelter at 983-4309 to schedule an appointment. View available animals and updated COVID-19 shelter policies at SFHumaneSociety.org. You can also follow the shelter on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The Santa Fe Animal Shelter continues with more online training classes aimed at puppies, kids and essential life skills for dogs. Whether you’re training a new puppy or teaching your old dog new tricks, experts agree that sooner is better. Adopters who have recently adopted a puppy or a dog from any shelter in New Mexico can attend a training class at the Santa Fe shelter at a 50% off special. Puppy classes focus on basic good manners, including sitting, waiting, paying attention, walking on a leash, and more. “Essential Skills for Dogs” is for dogs over the age of five months who want to learn best behaviors; in the “Learning Games for Kids and Dogs” class, different learning games are designed to teach your dog fun tricks and useful skills. Classes are Aug. 15, Aug. 23 and Sept. 4. For more information about online training classes, visit: bit.ly/ sfastraining.

ESPAÑOLA HUMANE

While many people have adopted animals during the COVID-19 pandemic, the shelter at Española Humane is filling up with cats, dogs, puppies and kittens looking for a new forever home.

Song will fill your heart with music — and not the broody, moody kind! This 2-year-old handsome good boy weighs 65 pounds and is ready to jam on the trails with you or get hiphoppin’ around the house. Shelter staff believes he’d love to do some salsa in the garden or listen to some slow jams on the couch. He’s ready to boogie outta’ the shelter. Song is neutered, vaccinated, chipped, heartworm negative and he goes home with six months of heartworm prevention for $20.

Primrose is purrfectly poised and pretty; however, she has a peculiar haircut. This gorgeous gal arrived with severely matted and painful fur, which had to be shaved — except for her face, legs and big puffy tail. Primrose is 8 pounds and is about 5 years old. She is spayed, vaccinated and chipped, and she’s ready to add some beauty to your life.

The shelter at 108 Hamm Parkway in Española is closed to the public and offering adoptions by appointment only. If you’re interested in adopting any one of these wonderful pets, browse the shelter’s website, www.espanolahumane.org, and then submit an application to adopt any one (or more!) of them. A staff member will then call you to set up an appointment to meet the pet(s).
