Governor’s leadership on climate is essential

-

HURRAY FOR Gov. (Michelle Lujan) Grisham!

Her speech at the Democratic National Convention on Aug. 19 truly reflects sound climate leadership for New Mexico. She strongly supports New Mexico’s commitment to move forward with renewable energy, developing long-lasting and exciting careers as a result. Indeed, (she) provides a template of climate leadership that ought to be followed by the rest of the nation.

New Mexico is the ideal state to lead this country into the 21st century with a clean, green energy future. Our state is wellknown for its year-round sunshine. And this state also receives plenty of wind all year long . ... Harvesting these resources with solar panels and wind farms is an excellent source of renewable energy . ...

Time is running out for the United States and other large, developed countries to save this planet from runaway global warming, to paraphrase the governor. It is now time to attack this climate crisis, even amidst this terrible pandemic. In fact, with the loss of so many jobs in this country in the past five months, it only makes sense to create new jobs that are friendly to the climate, good careers that are clean and green, jobs that will carry Americans well into the 21st century.

The governor also wants this country to rejoin the Paris Climate Accord.

... New Mexico has already expanded environmental protections even as the federal government has relaxed numerous protections in recent months. ... So, hats off to Gov. Lujan Grisham for providing leadership and a guiding light for this state and the rest of the country in the coming years so critical to controlling global warming.
