Republicans offer NM a better path forward

-

THERE IS no question that the stakes are high for New Mexico this November. At the ballot box, voters will determine whether Democrats or Republicans will control our state, our country and our future.

In a June interview with the Roswell Daily Record, (N.M. GOP) Chairman (Steve) Pearce predicted Republicans will flip the House, Senate or both, all while turning New Mexico red for President Trump in November. Minority Leaders (Stuart) Ingle and (Jim) Townsend are working hard to ensure Pearce’s prediction becomes reality, and I commend them for their dedication to this ambitious goal.

In New Mexico, Democrats have controlled the levers of power for most of our state’s history. Reasonable people can debate why this has happened, but the way I see it, Republicans have collectively failed to effectively advocate for our agenda, organize and match the Democrat’s financial juggernaut.

Unfortunately, the results of oneparty control on our state are not up for debate. Policy choices by our Democratic leaders have left our state on the wrong side of almost every list. Out of 50 states, (we have) the 47th worst economy, rank 48th in opportunity, 49th in crime and corrections, and 49th in education. To put it bluntly: The Land of Enchantment needs a course correction.

Fortunately, we have a great opportunity to chart a different course for our state this year. Republicans have recruited great and diverse candidates for almost all of the state legislative races. This is also the first time since 2004 that a Republican presidential campaign has committed financial resources necessary to ensure Republicans have a competitive ground game.

The Republican agenda is one of lower taxes, secure borders, and less government intrusion in people’s lives. I’m a Republican because I believe that agenda gives our kids the best chance at a brighter future. It’s time for Republicans to unite, work together and take back our state. Our children’s future depends on it.
