Herrell’s past shows she’s wrong choice for CD2
HIGHLY PARTISAN (former) GOP state Rep. Yvette Herrell is running again for the Congressional District 2 seat. She is an extreme right-wing state legislator, who pushed the most egregious proposed legislation — HB 292/SB 404 — ever presented in the N.M. Legislature in 2013.
It would have moved the ownership and management of Bureau of Land Management lands in New Mexico to the state including our beautiful Organ Mountains in Doña Ana County. It would then have been opened to development and sale to the highest bidder. Knowing this should sicken all Doña Ana County residents. Thank goodness for the establishment of the Organ Mountains Desert Peaks National Monument; it is protected from people like her.
(Herrell) went into real estate after she earned a legal secretary diploma from the ITT Technical Institute School of Business in Boise, Idaho. She failed to disclose that her real estate company, Herrell Properties, earned nearly a halfmillion dollars in contracts with two state agencies over five years, according to an analysis of campaign finance disclosure records by The Associated Press. The review of documents by the AP in 2018 found Rep. Herrell’s company took in $440,000 by renting property to the N.M. Taxation and Revenue and N.M. Environment departments since 2013. She finally revised her disclosure documents. This is a betrayal of the public trust.
