SF ANIMAL SHELTER & HUMANE SOCIETY

Bonita is a five-year-old English Bulldog mix who found her way to Santa Fe from another animal shelter. She weighs almost 80 pounds. She is the cutest and biggest couch potato you’ve ever seen! Some days, Princess Bonita decides that she doesn’t want to walk and that’s OK! She likes being babied and will be the best companion friend ever! Give this beautiful girl a dog throne, a lovely porch, or even your bed and she’ll be over the moon! When it comes to other dogs, she doesn’t care for them that much. Bonita likes being the only Princess in a household.

Alfredo is a handsome four-yearold white domestic short-haired kitty with lovely green eyes. Alfredo is hearing impaired, so he will need to stay indoors at all times. He is super sweet, loving and enjoys having his back scratched. If you are interested in meeting Alfredo, please call the Santa Fe Animal Shelter to schedule an appointment.

These and other animals are available for adoption from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter at 100 Caja del Rio Road. The shelter’s adoption hours during the pandemic are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. daily and are by appointment only. To enquire about any of these pets and others for adoption, call the shelter at 9834309 to schedule an appointment. View available animals and updated COVID-19 shelter policies at SFHumaneSociety.org.

You can also follow the shelter on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The Santa Fe Animal Shelter is now offering free online community classes to help pet parents keep their animals at home. The free lecture-style Zoom classes will have various topics, including Dog Training Basics and How to Become Your Dog’s Best Friend.

Dog Training Basics will be held today at 1 p.m., and will cover the basics of good dog training and how your relationship with your dog impacts training results.

Does your child love dogs, but hasn’t interacted with many? Does your child want to be your dog’s favorite person? How to Become Your Dog’s Best Friend, held on Sept 27 at 1 p.m. will help teach them how to interact safely with dogs in a fun and accessible way!

To register for these or other classes, visit SFHumaneSociety. org/training.

ESPAÑOLA HUMANE

Throughout the quarantine, Española Humane has continued its mission trying to find homes for all the animals that come through the shelter’s doors. The shelter will continue working to find homes for dogs like sweet Bernice. She suffered from the “Quarantine 15” when she arrived incredibly overweight with her two pudgeball puppies. (We get it, Bernice, who can resist Taco Tuesday?) She was placed in an active foster home to get that body movin’ — and she’s become a whole new dog! Her foster wrote to us about her 180-degree life change: “Bernice turned around in her character from a dog who gave up on life to one who wants activity and belly rubs. She is a brand new soul, who wants to run around more and more with each pound lost!” Her foster family reports that Bernice is very loyal; she learns fast and will stay by your side — and she’s a “real sucker for cuddles,” too.

Maggie is a stunning 3-monthold calico kitten looking for a lap to smush into muffins! The shelter has kittens like Maggie, plus house cats and several feral barn kitties, looking for a second chance at a new beginning!

The shelter at 108 Hamm Parkway in Española is closed to the public and offers adoptions by appointment only. Submit an application for these or any of the available pets on the shelter’s website: www.espanolahumane.org or www.petango.com, or call 505-753-8662.
