Las Cruces OKs changes to UTV rules on roads
LAS CRUCES — The Las Cruces City Council has approved a few tweaks to its ordinance allowing utility terrain vehicles on city roads.
The changes relate to the definition of a UTV. The revised ordinance no longer contains a provision stating UTVs have a speed capability “no greater than 45 miles per hour” and the engine displacement definition was changed from “less than 1,000 cubic centimeters” to “equal to or less than 1,000 cubic centimeters.”
Though the definition was changed, UTV operators still cannot exceed 45 mph on city streets.
The Las Cruces Police Department is creating a program to issue permits to UTVs operators.
