Pets of the week
SF ANIMAL SHELTER & HUMANE SOCIETY
While it looks like social distancing and staying home is still a wise choice, adopting a pet is very popular these days. The Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society has plenty of pets looking for forever homes. All you have to do is make an appointment.
This week, meet Ruger, a 3-yearold handsome Labrador retriever mix who weighs about 60 pounds. At the shelter, he has been very social with people and other dogs. As always, if you have another dog or two at home, you’re more than welcome to bring them in for a meet ‘n’ greet with Ruger.
Of course, you might be looking for a feline friend; if so, meet Misty. She is a beautiful 2-year-old domestic shorthaired tabby cat. Misty is a super-sweet kitty and when she gets to know you, will purrr non-stop for affection. Also, shelter staff wants to mention that Misty loves cat toys, so stock up if you take this sweet girl home.
These and other animals are available for adoption from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter at 100 Caja del Rio Road. The shelter’s adoption hours during the pandemic are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. daily and are by appointment only. Please call 505-983-4309 to schedule an appointment. You can fill out an application and schedule a visit to meet one of these pets or others available for adoption at the shelter.

Did you know the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society offers free online community classes to help pet parents keep their animals at home? The free lecture-style Zoom classes focus on various topics, including: “The Best Way to Train Your Dog” and “You Don’t Have To,” a course designed to train without using pain, fear or intimidation.
“The Best Way to Train” class is set for 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, and will teach you how your dog learns and show you the most efficient methods for getting the training results you want with your pup. If you are open to learning how force-free and positive methods achieve the best training results without fear and intimidation, then the “You Don’t Have To” class is for
you. It is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Nov. 21.
Later in November, the shelter will offer a “Home for the Holidays” class, which will prepare families for a reduced stress, safe holiday for all family members, including companion pets. To register for these or other classes, visit SFHumaneSociety.org/training.

Meet Barkly. She is a soft and squishy Husky mix who would rather cuddle than wrestle with her sister and brother. She enjoys quiet time with her toys and snuggling with her person. Barkly is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and comes with 6 months of heartworm protection, and she is available for adoption by appointment from our adorable Puppy Patch at Ojo Santa Fe spa resort.
Just in time for the season, meet Paco. He is a two-month-old precious purrball of pumpkin spice! This orange tabby is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and available for adoption by appointment from the shelter, which is located at 108 Hamm Parkway in Española. Because of COVID-19, the shelter is closed to the public and offers adoptions by appointment only.
