Early December

27, 2020, Gary Stewart Davis passed away peacefully at UNM Hospital with several of his family around him. He was 85 years old. Gary was born on October 5, 1935, in Price, Utah. He was married to Carroll Victoria Bell, and together they had six children, one boy, and five girls. Five siblings reside in New Mexico and one in Washington State. Gary met and fell in love with Carroll while working in Yellowstone National Park in the early 1950s. He spent summers exploring the park while he worked as a head bellman at the Old Faithful Inn. Carroll was a waitress in the grand dining room.

After graduating from the University of Utah in 1957, Gary and Carroll married.

Gary enlisted in the US Navy and retired after 20 years from the reserves as a Commander. Gary and his family settled in Littleton, Colorado, and he worked throughout the southwest as a medical sales representative. Following Carroll’s death in 1983, he returned to the Yellowstone area to live in scenic Henry’s Lake, Idaho. Gary became the family leader, counselor, and confidant to his extended family.

Everyone called Uncle or Grandpa Gary when they needed to talk. He had a big heart and was loved by all. Throughout his life, Gary remained an avid outdoorsman and fisherman. He enjoyed hiking and camping with his friends and family and had a particular love for the National Parks. In 2007, Gary was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and moved to Albuquerque in 2009 to be closer to his family. He never let his illness define him or hold him back. He rarely complained, and he was always planning his next adventure.

Gary is survived by his six children and spouses: Todd Davis, Rachael Schwarzmiller (Lee), Marcellea Davis-Sneddon (Matt), Caprice Davis, Sabrina Davis, and Anicia Hill (Makita), eight grandchildren:

Blu Schwarzmiller, Caleb Schwarzmiller, Sadie Schwarzmiller, Ariel Antonelli (Sonny) Kalika Foreman (Jake), Shane Esposito, Jack Esposito, and Adam Hill and two great-grandchildren: Leo Antonelli, and Kai Foreman. Gary was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Albuquerque, NM. His memorial will be scheduled for the Summer or Fall of 2021.
