SF ANIMAL SHELTER & HUMANE SOCIETY

Winter days are here, so why not warm up your life with a new pet?

Meet Rupert, he is a very handsome pup who currently weighs about 60 pounds. He came to the shelter as a stray and was heartworm-positive. He was treated and is now fully recovered. Rupert is about 4 years old, which is a great age for him to be a couch potato with his new family. He is a smart dog and loves people, cuddle time, and even knows a few tricks, including “sit” and “stay.” He loves KONG treats and is good on leash walks. If you would like to meet Rupert, please call the shelter to set up an appointment.

You might be looking for a furry feline to keep you warm this winter. If so, meet Logan, who is an independent 8½-pound, 4-year-old domestic shorthaired male kitty. He has taken his time in our shelter to get used to human interaction and is doing better every day. He does like cat treats, which leads to receiving affection and lots of purring. If you would like to meet Logan, please give the shelter a call.

These and other animals are available for adoption from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter at 100 Caja del Rio Road. The shelter’s adoption hours during

the pandemic are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. daily and are by appointment only. If you would like to meet these, or any of the other animals at the shelter, please call adoptions at 983-4309 ext. 1610 or email the staff at Adoption@ SFHumaneSociety.org to schedule an appointment.

The Santa Fe Animal Shelter will offer free courses on dog training and guidance as part of the National Train Your Dog Month. The classes are part of the Community Connection. If you are interested, you must register before the start date; all classes are online. The classes are as follows: “The Best Way To Train,” which is scheduled for 3 p.m. today, and will focus on the most efficient and effective methods for getting the training results you want with your dog.

The next class, “Why Does My Dog Do That?” will be Jan. 23 at 2:30 p.m. Trainers walk you through the common causes and proven solutions for nuisance behaviors from both dogs and cats. Lastly, the “Help With Jumpy & Mouthy Dogs” class will be Jan. 30 at 2:30 p.m. This class will focus on helping prevent jumping and mouthing tendencies in your dog, and how to teach your dog what to do instead.

The shelter also offers free training tips on its Facebook page each Tuesday, appropriately named Training Tip Tuesday.

Registration for all classes is required. For information, view the classes or, to sign up, visit SFHumaneSociety.org/training.

ESPAÑOLA HUMANE

Now that it’s 2021 and the holidays are over, how about bringing home a new furry family member?

Ahoy, me hearties! Captain Jack found himself marooned on the shores of the shelter with a bum eye, but, miraculously, with a delicate repair of his eyelid, the shelter’s vet team was able to save Captain’s sight! This 2-yearold, 49-pound handsome pirate will plunder your heart. He goes home neutered, vaccinated, chipped and with six months of heartworm prevention for a $20 adoption fee. Call to set up a meeting.

Meet Spirit. He was found lifeless on the side of a busy four-lane road. This tiny kitten‘s fighting spirit brought him back from severe brain trauma; after weeks of ICU care and syringe feeding in foster care, he slowly relearned how to walk and eat on his own. This 7-month-old tiny kitty would like to live as a “Spirit Cat” who appears on his own terms to visit and interact, and has the freedom to be unseen when he prefers to be alone.

Book an appointment to meet Spirit, Captain Jack or any of the shelter’s available pets. Española Humane is located at 108 Hamm Parkway in Española. Because of COVID-19, it is currently closed to the public and is offering adoptions by appointment only. Submit an application for either of these pets or see more adoptable pets by visiting the shelter’s website at www.espanolahumane.org or www.petango.com/espanola.
