True Health adds medical director

True Health New Mexico has brought in a new medical director as it begins a new chapter in its operations.

The health insurance company announced this week that Dr. Melissa Garcia will become its new medical director, replacing Pedro Cardona.

Garcia, a graduate of the University of New Mexico’s medical school, is a family medicine physician who has

more than 20 years of clinical experience, according to a news release from True Health. She is board certified in family medicine and obesity medicine, according to the release.

Last month, the Journal reported that True Health was acquired by Minnesota-based Evolent Health for $22 million. The company, which was founded about three years ago, has roughly 34,000 members as of the latest open enrollment period, according to previous reporting.

Tax hearing slated for Feb. 25

The New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department will hold a public hearing on a collection of proposed corporate income tax rules.

The hearing, slated for 1 p.m. Feb. 25, will address proposed regulation­s related to the Corporate Income and Franchise Tax Act and the Uniform Division of Income for Tax Purposes Act, according to a news release from the state tax and revenue department.

The proposed rules are intended to accompany changes to the tax code enacted in 2019. The changes eliminated separate entity reporting for C Corporatio­ns and made unitary combined reporting the default filing method for these companies, according to the release.

The recent changes also updated the tax code to assess tax based on sourcing services and intangible­s to New Mexico if delivered to a customer in the state or used in the state, according to the release.
