NMPED Secretary of Education Dr. Stewart: Consider doing what is right for students of NM and allow all to participate athletically immediately if they are currently academically eligible. Our children have been doing all that is asked of them and more. They should not be punitively penalized over something out of their control. They are virtually homeschooled, and NMAA Handbook Rule 10 allows home-schooled students to participate athletically. Thank you to all of the dedicated NM coaches.

STOP THE AGONY, the pain, the suffering turn off the lights, bring them home. This season is done. Why inflict further punishment and humiliation? The once proud Lobo basketball team is an embarrassment to the school, community and league and the athletic department is mired in debt because the cash cow no longer produces. Both the Coach and AD share responsibility.

NEW MEXICO LOST Wednesday’s game to Wyoming in the last minute of the first half. A foul was called on the Cowboys, their coach didn’t like it and got tossed. Six free throws plus possession for UNM, 2 of 6 at the line, no score on the possession and, going for the final shot, a turnover resulting in Wyoming on a 5-0 run to end the half. Wow. 6 of 17 at the free throw line in the first half for the Lobos. Thankfully, this nightmare of a journey, in so many ways, is almost over. — Lobo Statistician
