Ex-ABC anchorman Tom Llamas reportedly takes ‘wide-ranging role’ at NBC News

- Rich Heldenfels

You have questions. I have some answers.

Q: Anchorman Tom Llamas on ABC News said a recent broadcast was his last, without explanation. Do you know why he left?

A: Although it has not been officially announced at this writing, several reports say Llamas has taken a new job with NBC News. The New York Post said Llamas “is being lined up for a wideranging role across NBC News that involves work across the network’s news shows, streaming services and MSNBC.”

Q: What happened to the Netflix show “Hart of Dixie,” which was abruptly taken off the air in the middle of the series?

A: The series starring Rachel Bilson was discovered by a lot of folks on Netflix but was not made for that streaming service. It was first shown on The CW for four seasons in 2011-15. Netflix has been carrying the show for several years, but its rights to the series ended in December 2020. The entire series was released on DVD and can be found streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Q: My wife and I very much enjoyed the series “800 Words” that aired on our local PBS station. Is it coming back?

A: The series, about an Australian newspaper columnist moving his family to a town in New Zealand, ended production in 2018 after three seasons and 40 episodes total. Those episodes are still being offered not by PBS but by American Public Television, which distributes shows to individual stations. You would have to check with your local station about its plans to keep carrying the show. All three seasons are streaming on Acorn TV, available through Amazon Prime Video.

Q: When is “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” coming back on? I think that it is the best cast on TV, even though sometimes they talk so fast that I can’t understand them.

A: It will be a while longer. Series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino reportedly said some time back that production would begin in January 2021, with preparation for shooting having already begun and actors set for table reads this month. Of course, these uncertain times could throw those plans out the window. But this is what we know for now.
