SF ANIMAL SHELTER & HUMANE SOCIETY

Copper is a handsome 2-year-old mixed-breed fellow who currently weighs about 50 pounds. Here at the shelter, Copper is a friendly pup who is very smart and ready to learn to be a polite dog with his new family. He already knows how to sit and stay.

Waldo is a quiet 8-yearold domestic mediumhaired male kitty. He was transferred to the SFAS to find a second chance in the City Different. Waldo, who can be a bit shy, and has been showing his true nature a little bit more each day, also enjoys scratches on the head.

These and other animals are available for adoption from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter at 100 Caja del Rio Road. The shelter’s adoption hours during the pandemic are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. daily and are by appointment only. Call 983-4309 ext. 1610 or email Adoption@ SFHumaneSociety.org to schedule an appointment to see these cute pets or the many others looking for a forever home

You can view available animals and updated COVID-19 shelter policies at SFHumaneSociety.org, and/or follow the shelter on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The Santa Fe Animal Shelter is offering free online community connection courses to help pet parents keep their animals happy and safe at home. The free lecture-style Zoom classes will have various topics, including “Safe Dog Play,” “Working with Reactive Dogs” and “Dog Park Etiquette.”

“Safe Dog Play” takes place Sunday at 3 p.m., and will cover the basics of what is fair game between dogs and what is not. Living with reactive behavior in our dogs can make walking and other daily activities challenging, especially if they are lunging, barking and snarling. In the class “Working with Reactive Dogs” at 3 p.m. April 3, trainers will discuss why dogs overreact to triggers and how to prevent reactions. The last class, “Dog Park Etiquette,” planned for 3 p.m. on April 17 will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of taking your pup to the dog park, as well as tips to keep you both safe and happy.

To register for these or other training classes, visit SFHumaneSociety.org/ training.

ESPAÑOLA HUMANE

Riley is Española Humane’s longest resident and, after 10 weeks in our care, she is looking to grow roots and bloom in her forever home.

This year-old, 64-pound, fawn-colored female is as beautiful as a wildflower and would love to be your summer adventure buddy. She loves people of all ages, but she doesn’t love cats. Riley’s adopter will receive a swag bag of spring goodies to help grow your love!

Felix is fun-loving springtime-poppin’ pup! This 6-month-old, 36-pound goofball with adorable eye patches is playful and social with all people and pets. He loves to romp and roll with his shelter buddies in the play yards, and he’s always up for an adventure.

Apply to adopt

Riley or Felix on the shelter’s website, www. espanolahumane, where you can also schedule an adoption appointment.

Española Humane is located at 108 Hamm Parkway in Española. Because of COVID-19, it is currently closed to the public and is offering adoptions by appointment only. Please submit an application for either of these two dogs on the shelter’s website at www. espanolahumane.org.

To see more adoptable pets, log on to or www. petango.com/espanola.

In other news, Española Humane offers incentives for adoptions with a spring adoption promotion running through April 2. The Love Grows adoption special offers dog and cat adopters an adoption bag filled with gourmet cat or dog biscuits courtesy of Teca Tu pet store, plus a 25% discount coupon for the store, a ball thrower for dogs and an Española Humane T-shirt. Adoption fees at the shelter are already among the lowest in the state, and pets come altered, microchipped and with age-appropriate vaccinations.

Teca Tu, a longtime shelter partner, is located at the DeVargas Center, 165 Paseo de Peralta, Santa Fe. In addition to the gourmet treats, adopters receive a 25% percent discount coupon for anything in the store as a celebration of their adoption.

For more information and to see photos of adoptable pets in springlike settings, visit the shelter’s social media pages or espanolahumane. org. Adoptions continue to be by appointment only through the website. For more information, call 505-753-8662.
