Albuquerque Public Schools parents who have thoughts on school safety, their child’s learning or the helpfulness of school staff are getting a chance to weigh in.

The annual “Quality of Education and Family Engagement Survey” is being sent out to families and can be filled out online until April 23.

The state-required survey is anonymous, and results will be posted online by the end of the school year.

FREE FOOD: All APS schools will offer free breakfast and lunch to in-person learners starting Monday, when campuses reopen.

The district will also continue to provide pickup meals for remote students at no cost.

Starting Wednesday, students learning virtually can get weekly bundles of meals on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Locations can be found at APS.edu. ROYAL SHIFT: Atrisco Heritage Academy is trading in the typical homecoming and prom court titles and voting process for a more inclusive approach. The district said it’s the first APS high school to use a gender-neutral model.

“Starting this year, students will be selected to the school’s Royal Courts based on merit and vote count, but not by the male/female categories,” the district wrote in a news release. “The highest number of votes will determine the winners. Winners will be recognized individually and as a group rather than be partnered with members of the opposite sex.”

There won’t be “kings” and “queens” but rather “royalty.”

COVID-FIGHTING ROBOTS: Eat your heart out, Jetsons. Thirty-seven autonomous disinfecting robots will help clean Gallup McKinley County Schools campuses and other facilities amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We wanted a larger, longer-term disinfection solution, adding a layer of protection that would disinfect the surfaces and the air in our buildings and help fight COVID, colds, flu and infectious diseases for years to come,” Superintendent Mike Hyatt said in a statement.

A news release bills the robot crew as the “largest deployment of autonomous disinfection robots in any school district in the country.”
