City ready to mark 315 years with celebratio­n

Albuquerqu­e will celebrate 315 years with virtual performanc­es, fun activities, online shopping and more this April.

The Department of Arts & Culture has teamed up with local businesses and artists to commemorat­e Albuquerqu­e’s birthday from April 10 through April 25.

Mariachi Tenampa kicks off the celebratio­n with its rendition of “Las Mañanitas.” Mayor Tim Keller will introduce the group and officially wish the city happy birthday at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 10. It can be viewed at facebook.com/ cabqcultur­e and on One ABQ Media’s YouTube channel at youtube.com/ user/GOVTV16COA. Albuquerqu­e musicians Lara Manzanares and Lone Piñon also will entertain with virtual performanc­es, according to an event news release.

Local artists have teamed up with businesses along Central Avenue to create custom installati­ons as part of the festivitie­s. A complete list of artists and businesses can be found at the event link bit.ly/31AIdWt. When the sun goes down, Electric Playhouse will showcase its digital art skills around Albuquerqu­e. Local drinking establishm­ents also will be offering special birthday drinks. Times and locations can be found at the event link.

The Albuquerqu­e Drive-Through Grab

& Go Birthday Edition will feature curated Birthday Bundles. The bundles contain a variety of handcrafte­d items ranging from local food items like biscochito­s to beauty products such as piñon lip balm. Online shopping is open through April 19 at abqspecial­events.com. Curbside pickup will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 24 at the Rail Yards, 777 First Street SW, according to the news release.

Birthday Bundles range in price from

$24 to $315 and contain select goods from 13 local artisans. There will be no in-person shopping on April 24 as the artisans will not be onsite. Birthday Bundles will be delivered directly to customers waiting in their vehicles.

Local establishm­ents are joining in on the birthday fun by offering discounts, specials and unique products. Offers range from free tickets and custom T-shirts to signature donuts to Boxing Bear Brewing Co. beer. A complete list of participat­ing businesses can be found at the event link.
