SF meat processor gets LEDA support

Beck & Bulow is fourth food-processing business to get incentive in 2021

Yet another New Mexico food producer is looking to expand with the help of state funding.

The New Mexico Economic Development Department announced Monday that Beck & Bulow, which sells meat products directly to consumers and restaurants, will receive up to $300,000 in grant funding through the Local Economic Development Act. The state is providing up to $250,000, with the city of Santa Fe chipping in an additional $50,000, according to a news release from EDD.

Beck & Bulow is set to hire 24 employees in the next three years and another 28 in the next seven years, according to the release. Additionally, two interns from Santa Fe Community College will be starting at the business in the fall.

The business also plans to purchase its own warehouse, processing, office, and production space in Santa Fe. Currently, Beck & Bulow leases 5,000 acres in San Miguel County to raise grass-fed beef and bison, but has been doing most of its processing in Colorado, according to the release.

With this expansion, the company will be able to bring its butchering and manufacturing back to New Mexico and provide more product selection of its sausages, burger patties, jerky, and portion-controlled steaks, according to the release.

Beck & Bulow is the fourth food-processing business to announce expansions using LEDA funds in 2021, after Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm, Bueno Foods and La Primera Tortilla Factory.
