Hypocrites in government will profit from pot
People who were unfairly punished by a greedy government should band together to sue for reparations
It is unconscionable the Legislature of New Mexico, some being attorneys and most not being marijuana users, would try and profit off of something for which the state terrorized people for years, including (in) 2021, and without making any type of reparations to their victims. I was one of those victims. My life was altered for nothing other than possessing pot and testing positive for marijuana.
I was on probation for 50 months in New Mexico for possessing pot. Once, I was handcuffed in front of my 4-year-old as cops tore my house apart and caused damage to it over pot. The probation officer laughed and said he wasn’t going to arrest me, so I would have some time to fix the damage.
Years later, in a custody hearing, the judge forced me to pee in a cup right then and there, and, when I tested positive, she took my kid away. I had to pee in a cup for eight weeks and test clean before she gave me back partial custody. I believe my kid grew up a fine example of a human being, and she lived with me. The court said I was evil because I smoked pot.
I lost future employment and was hassled by cops multiple times for pot, and Darren White, former sheriff, is allowed to profit off of pot because he saw the light? Well, what about all the dark he showed the county with his arrests and incarcerations for pot? What about all of the pain he caused? Why should he be allowed to profit off of pot?
Has pot somehow evolved and become beneficial? Of course it has. It has evolved to be a revenue-maker for the wealthy and the state coffers. I’m sure marijuana smokers will feel the enlightenment in the newly invented product Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham puts out, not that I would ever smoke that (expletive). Maybe she will give a gram for free if you get a vaccine?
It was no different then than it is now and, for the hypocrites in government to look to profit off of marijuana and control who can now sell this monopoly, is a complete farce. The people who were unfairly punished by a newly enlightened — maybe just a little greedy, too — government is too much for me to swallow.
I hope there is a lot of resistance to this becoming law, and I hope to sue the state for reparations and a chance to profit from the unfair punishment I was given. It is unconscionable for the state to make me a secondclass citizen over marijuana and think I won’t fight back, but one person is not as mighty as a group. Everyone who was punished needs to be a part of a class-action lawsuit to sue for our rights. To allow the people who altered our lives over marijuana, and profited from the probation fees and court costs, and attorneys to then spit in our face with their new enlightenment to become millionaires is not forgivable. Enough is enough.
Our right to work is not equal, and to not allow us to be the first to profit from the state’s unethical past treatment is not fair. People whose rights were violated should be given access to licenses, minus fees, and with automatic consideration from the state for the state’s past actions in using marijuana to control and alter our lives. The state won’t give us equality, so we have to demand it.
