Why stop? Add heroin and hookers
IF NEW MEXICO needs tax revenue, why stop with only marijuana?
On (March 26, a week after) the 60-day legislative session ended, our governor called for a special legislative session to consider and act on legalizing marijuana, or as the term is used, cannabis. So, if tax revenue and jobs are needed, why stop there?
How about legalizing dog fights and cock fights, as well? Have a ring in the four quadrants of the city. Or why stop with marijuana when there are so many other “recreational” drugs out there? Here are a few:
There are four categories of recreational drugs: analgesics, depressants, stimulants and hallucinogens. Analgesics include narcotics such as heroin, morphine, fentanyl and codeine. Depressants include alcohol, barbiturates, tranquilizers and nicotine. Stimulants include cocaine, methamphetamine and ecstasy (MDMA). Hallucinogens include LSD (acid), peyote (mescaline), psilocybin (magic mushrooms), marijuana, ketamine, phencyclidine (PCP) and salvia divinorum (diviner’s sage).
Any problems with these “recreational drugs?”
“Recreational drugs” is a bad term. It suggests that drugs can be fun and safe. Nothing could be further from the truth. All drugs are nightmarish and dangerous. They alter our perception of reality and diminish our ability to reason, both of which endanger us. Drugs create psychological and physical dependence, both of which enslave us.
Worth noting as well is that when the police pull over a driver for impaired, reckless or dangerous driving, there is no way to test for drugs except blood tests. So, if pot is legalized, then blood tests must be legalized, as well.
Finally, if tax money is the objective, why not adopt another legal business found in parts of Nevada, namely prostitution?
After all, research shows: According to the National Institute of Justice, a study conducted in 2008 found approximately 15-20% of men in the country have engaged in commercial sex. Considering out-of-state tourists, this could be a real big tax generator! GEORGE RICHMOND
