Age 89, a life-long resident of Albuquerque, was peacefully called home to the Lord on Sunday, April 18, 2021. She was born in Marlia, Italy on May 3rd, 1932 to Antonio and Emma Domenici. They arrived in America and settled in Albuquerque. Lilly graduated from St. Vincent’s Academy in 1950. She attended St. Joseph’s Teachers College and graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1955 with a degree in Home Economics. She taught high school Home Economics before marrying John Tomasi in 1955. Immediately after the wedding celebration, Lilly and John packed up their red and white Bel Air and drove to Pensacola, Florida for Naval flight school. Their first assignment was Honolulu, Hawaii where their first two daughters were born. After military service, they moved back to Albuquerque where their family grew to 5 children, 2 daughters and 3 sons. Their life took them to new places - Clovis, NM, Hereford, TX (where Lilly had her 3rd daughter, completing the family) eventually returning to Albuquerque. Lilly was always the first to volunteer at her children’s schools, their sport team activities and at the church. Whether it was Camp Fire girls, sports teams, or school fundraisers - Lilly not only showed up, but she also usually led the effort. Covering all this for 6 children while keeping a home running, and being a great cook shows the full commitment she had to her family and her community. She continued her love of teaching combined with her passion for quilting when she worked for a local Bernina sewing machine shop. She passed on her love of crafting beautiful quilts by teaching the art to many. She leaves behind a legacy of her creations that are treasured by family and friends. She encouraged all her children to get involved and to engage in something that made a difference in the community. The best gift she gave all her children was a foundational faith. She and John modeled their faith in big and small ways. Her children and grandchildren continue this commitment to God. She was preceded in death by John, her beloved husband of 59 years. She is survived by her 6 children, Pamela Huxen (Mark), Patrice Welker (Chris), Steve Tomasi (Riva), Tom Tomasi (Jeree), David Tomasi and Annette Armijo (Marty), as well as 14 grandchildren who live from coast to coast, and 8 great-grandchildren. One more great-grandchild will be born in August and she will be named Lillyana. Funeral arrangements are being handled by French Funerals and Cremations. The rosary will be at St. Jude Thaddeus on Friday, April 23, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be at St. Jude Thaddeus on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 8:00 a .m.
