Playing a hero cop with a secret criminal empire, the great Morgan Freeman gives one of his least interesting performances ever in a slick, forgettable thriller riddled with cheap crimemovie dialogue and dependent on one ho-hum shootout and chase scene after another. Ruby Rose plays the single mom Freeman sends on a seemingly suicidal mission.

THE VOYAGERS ★★1/2

Sci-fi adventure, PG-13, 108 minutes, 2021

About 30 brilliant humans are specially bred to begin an 86-year voyage to a more habitable planet — and reproduce to make the next crew — but complications arise midflight. At first, the wildly entertaining concept has some pretty good payoffs, but then the story takes the easy way out.

The sequel to the 1989 comedy hit sends Prince Akeem (Eddie Murphy) back to New York to find the son he never knew, the legal successor to the Zamunda throne instead of the prince’s wise daughter. With Arsenio Hall and Shari Headley returning and Leslie Jones and Tracy Morgan joining the ensemble, this continuation is just as gloriously funny as the original.
