Don Cheadle gives a beautifully nuanced performance as Curt Goynes, a world-weary career criminal in 1954 Detroit who is drawn into a relatively small job that keeps getting bigger and bigger. This distinctly American film, written and directed by Steven Soderbergh, one of the great American directors, features maybe the best cast of any film so far this year.
