Jane Elizabeth Goodwin
Jane Elizabeth Goodwin, 72, passed away on
July 13, 2021, in Albuquerque,
New Mexico. She will always be remembered by family and friends for her generosity, intelligence, and kindness.
Jane was born October 7, 1948, in Altus, Oklahoma to parents Arthur and Dorothy Goodwin. She graduated from Altus High School, then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Southeastern State University in Durant, OK.
After college, Jane went to work as a claims representative for the Social Security Administration in New York City. She later transferred to Social Security offices in Odessa, Texas; Ardmore, Oklahoma; Austin, TX.; and finally, Amarillo, where she was promoted to Operations Supervisor. She became active in Soroptimist International, a global volunteer organization, and served as area president. She was a member of DRMA and NCSSMA, both associations of Social Security managers and supervisors.
Jane won numerous awards with Social Security. Her problem solving skills later led her to travel across Texas and New Mexico, implementing new software programs and solving technology problems for local SSA offices as Area Systems Coordinator.
After retiring in 2004, she moved to Albuquerque to enjoy living close to good friends. Her Sheltie “fur babies,” Morgan and Pepper, were her constant companions. She also developed a love for genealogy and traveled around the country tracing family ancestry.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Dorothy, and stepmom, Willa Lee Goodwin; her brother, Lynn Goodwin; step-sister, Margie Garrison; and step brother-inlaw, Ray Chisum. She is survived by her sister-inlaw, Shari Goodwin; nieces, Christy (Alison) Goodwin and Julie (Danny) Knudsen; great nephew and nieces, Brady, Mary Kyde, and Lynley Knudsen; cousins Joanne (John) Randall, Laurel Baggett, and Harry (Marsha) Ellis; and stepsiblings, Linda Chisum, Karen (Bob) Christian, Jim (Joyce) Hines, and Phillip Garrison; and their families.
Jane was a generous monthly supporter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, the Alzheimers Association, and the Road Runner Food Bank in Albuquerque. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
