Anthony Garcia, died on August 28, 2021. Tony was a talented musician. He particular­ly enjoyed the Santa Fe Opera.

Tony was born on January 22, 1936 in Las Vegas, NM to Anthony D. Garcia and Mary Baca. After graduating from St. Mary’s High School in Albuquerqu­e he entered St. Francis Seminary in Cincinnati. He later studied at Immaculate Heart Seminary in Santa Fe.

After discerning away from the priesthood Tony joined the Navy, playing several instrument­s with the band and orchestra.

While assigned to the 13th Naval Band in Seattle, Tony met his future wife, Ann Walsh.

After time spent in the Navy, Tony earned a bachelor’s degree from Seattle University. At Chapman College in Orange, California he served as Dean of Admissions. Subsequent­ly he earned a Master’s Degree in education and taught freshman seminar courses. Tony was named Faculty Member of the Year 2007-2008.

After 44 years of marriage, Ann passed away and Tony relocated to Laguna Woods.

In 2017, he moved to Virginia, closer to his sons in Washington. Tony entered into eternal life on August 28, 2021.

Tony is survived by his sister, Annette Garcia Martin of Albuquerqu­e; his twin sons, James Anthony Garcia, a senior trial attorney with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission and a deacon for the Archdioces­e of Washington and Jon Dominic Garcia, a coordinati­ng White House producer for ABC News, as well as his sister-in-law, Kathleen Diesem, of Arlington, Virginia; nephews, Mark Alires and Martin Alires of Albuquerqu­e and niece, Michelle Alires Parshall of Corrales, New Mexico.

His funeral mass will be celebrated on November 13, 2021 at St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington. A memorial Mass will be celebrated in California on January 22, 2022. At a later date Tony’s ashes will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery beside those of his beloved wife.
